Best Practices for Termbase Design

Managing terminology is essential for technical writers and translators, but also for language service providers, companies and organizations. But how to design and configure a termbase that ideally matches the respective needs and objectives.

Klaus-Dirk Schmitz explains how to build a best practice, concept-oriented termbase in this workshop. This workshop is ideal for those who want to understand what types of language and terminological information should be included in a termbase, what terminological principles should be followed, and how to organize and use termbases effectively.

Klaus-Dirk Schmitz graduated in computer science and mathematics at the University of Saarland, and worked on the machine translation system SUSY during the 1980s. In 1992 he was appointed professor for translation-related terminology at TH Köln, where he is now Managing Director of the Institute for Translation and Multilingual Communication (ITMK). Klaus is also head of the German Standard Committee for Terminology at DIN, vice-president of TermNet, and member of several advisory boards.
