Storyboarding: Learn to Run the Future of Documentation!

It is evident that the future of documentation will consist of less text and more interaction. This trend of delivering interactive information is increasing as customers need targeted information with less of a learning curve.

We can already see that Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have replaced traditional documents such as user guides and instruction manuals. In this scenario, a technical writer has to keep up with advancements in technology and acquire knowledge of new skills and tools.

Storyboarding is one of the skills that are less known to technical writers, as this is used more in media teams by content developers and instructional designers. In my session, I will talk about:

  • What is Storyboarding?
    • Definition and uses
  • History of Storyboards
    • The Art of Walt Disney by Christopher Finch
  • Why is it important to learn the art of creating Storyboards?
    • Use of Storyboards in creating:
      • Video tutorials
      • AR and VR content
      • Games
  • Planning your first Storyboard
    • Deciding and visualizing your content
    • Defining standards
    • Studying dependencies on other teams
  • Walkthrough of a typical Storyboard and its components
    • Scenes
    • Attributes
    • Instructions to other teams (such as media/animation teams)
  • Storyboard to Video
    • How to use the Storyboard to create the end-product?
  • Conclusion

Note: Please bring your own laptop to the Workshop for hands-on exercises!
